Charlene Sandra Holmes

Charlene Sandra Holmes, “Sandy,” died peacefully at home on April 25, 2023, at the age of 77. She was born in Sydney, Ohio, raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, and longtime resident of Bel Air, Maryland. She is beloved wife of Harold Holmes, devoted mother to Kimberly Lipscomb and her husband Jeff, Kevin Holmes and his wife Julie, Kathryn Sulkowski and her husband David, sister to Ralph Johnson III and Charles Johnson, and their families. She was a loving grandmother to her 8 grandchildren, her favorite blessings. She is predeceased by her parents Ralph Johnson Jr and Charlene Johnson. She is survived by many other cherished family members and friends.

In her youth, she enjoyed Girl Scouts, dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading. An avid learner, she received her bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater University and her master’s degree in education from Loyola College. She worked proudly as a dance, gymnastics and swim instructor, camp counselor, physical education teacher, and reading and writing specialist. She enjoyed nature, animals, the beach, swimming, traveling, cheering from a sports sideline for her children and grandchildren, and being with and mentoring her family. She will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends may gather at Schimunek Funeral Home in Bel Air, Maryland on Thursday, May 11, 2023. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Bel Air United Methodist Church on Friday, May 12, 2023 with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her and the family’s church, Bel Air United Methodist Church or a charity supporting our veterans.
