Bernardo “Bernie” John Alaimo, age 72, was called home to be with the Lord peacefully, surrounded by love and family on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at his home. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Philip and Phyrn (Jones) Alaimo. Beloved husband of 41 years to Sharon Alaimo (nee Prell); devoted father to Bernardo (BJ) John Alaimo, Jr. and his wife Angela, Gina Townsend and her husband Maxx; loving grandfather to Anthony, Joseph, Natalie, Evan, and Gianna; Loving Uncle to nephew Phillip Surdel, his children Hannah and Estella, niece AnnaMarie Lane and her husband Bryan; Son-in-law to Gilbert, Sr. and Emma Shelsby; brother-in-law to Linda Duvall, George Prell and his wife Jo.
Bernie was a proud graduate of Overlea High School (’70) where he excelled in Baseball, Basketball and Soccer. He was a graduate of Towson State University (’75), where he continued his love of playing soccer.
Bernie had a 40-year career in the automobile industry working for Ford Motor Credit, Toyota Motor Credit Corporation and Honda Financial Services.
An avid Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan, Bernie would often attend baseball games with his son and grandsons. He loved coaching his children’s sports teams and attending his grandchildren’s events. He also enjoyed exercising, working in the yard, taking rides on his motorcycle, a Harley-Davidson Road King Classic, and spending time on his boat.
Bernie dedicated time serving others at various organizations including Helping Up Mission, Harford Family House and Trinity Lutheran Church as a Stephen Minister.
Bernie recommitted his life to Christ in 2023 at Mountain Christian Church, where he was a member.
Bernie loved his family deeply. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with them and knowing that they walk in the truth.
He was preceded in death by his parents Philip Bernardo and Phyrn Anne Alaimo, his sister and brother-in-law Rosaria Surdel and John (Jack), and his brother-in-law Michael Duvall.
A visitation for Bernie will be held at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, Inc., 610 W MacPhail Rd, Bel Air, MD 21014 on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Mountain Christian Church Abingdon Campus, 3465 Box Hill Corporate Center Dr, Abingdon, MD 21009. Inurnment to follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Baltimore, MD.
