Walter Eugene “Gene” Davis 76, of Indianapolis, passed away October 6, 2023. Eugene was born on January 21,1947. Eugene graduated from Manual High School and then joined the United States Army in 1966, serving our country in the Vietnam War until 1968. When he returned, he began working at Western Electric for several years, where he met his wife, Becky. In 1972 he made an occupation change where he began his career in law enforcement with Beech Grove Police Department until retirement in 2000 as Captain of Investigations. He went on to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office until his second retirement in 2015. He had the distinct honor of being the recipient of State of Indiana Sagamores of The Wabash, awarded by the honorable Governor Michael R. Pence in December of 2016. He was a proud member of the following organizations: Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 86; The American Legion Post 276; The VFW Post 5626; Fraternal Order of Eagles – Beech Grove.
When Gene wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, vacationing, and hosting gatherings.
Gene will be missed by all who knew him, including his wife of 54 years, Becky; his children Michael (Belinda) and Amy Hatch (late Robert Hatch); his grandchildren, Alexia and Cody Davis; Lauren and Lillian Hatch; great granddaughter Sofia Davis; siblings Ted and Keith Davis (brothers), Linda (Davis) Watnes (sister), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Coful (Logsdon) Davis; his siblings, Emmett, Charles, Kenneth, Paul, Pauline (Davis) Stapert, Ophelia (Davis) Hopper, and Norma (Davis) Anderson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, October 18th from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. in the Little and Sons Beech Grove Chapel. Burial will follow with military honors in Mt. Pleasant Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, IN. In lieu of flowers, Gene’s family request memorial contributions be made to; Indianapolis FOP Auxiliary (1525 Shelby Street, Indianapolis, IN 46203). Memorial Envelopes will be available at the services at Little and Sons.
