Obituary of Samuel Isaias Ruiz
Samuel Isaias Ruiz Avalo, Jr., 64, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, June 10th, 2023. The son of the late Samuel V Ruiz and Gilda Ruiz (Avalo). He was born February 5th, 1959 in Havana, Cuba. Samuel is survived by his mom Gilda Ruiz (Avalo); loving wife, Damaris Ruiz; daughter, Deborah Ruiz; sister, Gilda Lidia Ruiz Avalo; brother-in-law, Victor Becquer; 2 nieces and 1 nephew. Samuel was preceded in death by his father, Samuel V. Ruiz; along with his brother, Yoelito Ruiz. Reverend Ruiz was a Lutheran Pastor for 30 years. Before that, he graduated in Cuba as a Chemist and began working in the beer industry and then transitioned to work as a Water Chemist. After working as a Chemist, Samuel accepted the calling as a Pastor and went to the Evangelical Seminary of Theology of Matanzas, Cuba and later earned a scholarship to continue his education in St. Catharine’s, Ontario, Canada, where he received his Master of Divinity from Brock University. Post graduate school, Ruiz began his ministry career as Pastor of Outreach Mission where he planted new Hispanic missions in churches in northwest, central, and southern Indiana. In addition to his mission work, Samuel hosted a radio program, served as a board member for the Indiana Latino Expo, got interviewed countless times at local news stations and hosted several community events at churches. When he wasn’t working, Samuel loved music, both playing (piano) and listening. He also loved baseball, going to the beach, spending time with family, reading books, exploring new technology, enjoying nature and traveling. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM with the Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 8540 E. 16th St., Indianapolis, IN 46219.
