Rita M. (Pich) Babbitt, 98, Beech Grove, passed away, Monday, December 10, 2018. She was born June 10, 1920 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Norbert and Magdalena (Buergler) Pich. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, William T. Babbitt who was a retired detective with the Indianapolis Police Department; brothers, Bob and Jim Pich; sisters, Alfreda Mann, Martha Shanahan, Mary Finefield, Bernice Roberts, Ruth Kurrasch, and Kay Perry. Rita was a graduate of Holy Cross Grade School and St. Mary’s Academy. She was a selfless, dedicated, mother of five children and was very active in her church, Holy Name, where she was a member over 60 years. She was a member of the altar society and volunteered many years for various activities in the parish. Rita walked two miles every day and was on three bowling leagues, even bowling a 200 game at 93.
She is survived by her children, Thomas J. Babbitt (Heide), Gerry Babbitt Kennedy, Timothy W. Babbitt (Sharon), Janis Babbitt Hamilton, and Beth Babbitt Runkle (Max); 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2018 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Little and Sons Funeral Home, 1301 Main St., Beech Grove, Indiana. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Holy Name Catholic Church, 89 N 17th Ave., Beech Grove, Indiana with entombment to follow in Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
