Sr. Mary Sylvester Will, OSB (formerly Loretta Elizabeth), 102, peacefully died at Our Lady of Grace Monastery where she resided. Sr. Mary Sylvester was born on May 13, 1912 in Poseyville, Indiana to the late Paul and Veronica (Martin) Will. She entered Monastery Immaculate Conception, Ferdinand, Indiana on September 4, 1927. She made her Perpetual Monastic Profession in 1933 and this past summer celebrated her 85th Jubilee. A milestone few reach. She transferred to Our Lady of Grace Monastery in 1960 and was a founding member. Sr. Mary Sylvester received her Bachelor’s Degree from St. Benedict College and a Master’s Degree from St. Francis College. She was an educator for 50 years at various schools in the Diocese of Evansville and the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. In 1981 she served in parish ministry at St. Paul Church, Tell City, Indiana until her retirement in 1988. Sr. Mary Sylvester was a dedicated volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul and faithfully went every week until she was 99 years old. Her brothers, Andrew, Henry, Theodore, Paul, Victor and Edward Will, her sisters, Olivia Gillis and Catherine Breivogel preceded her in death. Her sister, Lillian Kissel of Evansville, Indiana, many nieces and nephews survive her. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a wake service at 7:00 PM in the Monastery chapel. Her funeral will take place on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 4:00 PM with visitation beginning at 2:00 PM until the funeral.
