Evelyn passed away in her home of 64 years. She celebrated her 95th birthday on July 6th.
She was born in Indianapolis to August and Margaret Schoeneman, moving with her family to New Bethel (Wanamaker) in the 8th grade. There she met and married Robert Berry. After his death, she later married James Tandy (deceased).
Evelyn was an executive secretary for the Internal Revenue of 28 years. Volunteering was an important part of her life. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She volunteered at Acton, Wanamaker, and Kitley grade schools, even into her 90’s. As a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, served as a church clerk, deacon, and sang in the choir for many years.
She was fortunate to travel to every state in the United States, as well as several countries in Europe.
Evelyn lived joyfully! She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She took time to send a card for every birthday or a note of encouragement to those in need.
We are honored to call her our Mother. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Bush (Jan Stegemoller), Rosanne Jannusch (Mike), Betsy Tandy, Susan Kirby (William), Margaret Emmert (Sherry Lifer); and sons James Tandy (Lilliana) and Robert Tandy (Teresa), as well as 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Koehring (Alfred) and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the kindness of Dr. Michael Ruley, and Dr. Santos and the tender care provided by Valerie Sims and Edith Okai and others.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 25, 2015 at Noon at the New Bethel Baptist Church, preceded by calling from 10:00 AM till the time of the service. A private burial will follow. As we celebrate Evelyn’s life we invite those calling to wear pink, her favorite color. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Bethel Baptist Church, God’s Bounty Food Pantry, or the Franklin Township Historical Society.
