Donald Ellis Wright Jr.

Donald Ellis Wright, Jr., of Indianapolis, entered into rest on November 2, 2023. He was born on October 17, 1940 in Beech Grove, IN to the late Donald Sr. and Dorothy (Oliver) Wright. Donald was proud of many things in his life but the love he shared for his wife of 42 years was one thing he treasured most as she was truly his pride and joy. He served as a police officer for 40 years and enjoyed serving his community by volunteering at Meals on Wheels, St. Francis South Hospital, and St. Vincent De Paul. He was a 1958 graduate of Scecina Memorial High School and coached CYO football for many of the Catholic grade schools in Indianapolis. Donald was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Donald loved sports and was an avid Colts and Pacers fan. You could often find Donald jumping in his car to head to South Bend to cheer on Notre Dame Football – Go Irish!! He and his wife would often travel to Vegas and to the riverboats and he really enjoyed that time with her. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Marybeth Messer and Carolyn Burlington. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Wright; children, Rosemary (Harry) Armour, Susan (John) Nelson, Joani (Gregg) Ossip, Tony (Yudelis) Wright, Shelly Fishburn, Tommy (Caroline) Fishburn, and Todd Fishburn; brother, Steve (Katie) Wright; 24 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 86, 1525 Shelby St., Indianapolis, IN 46203.
