Born June 2, 1934 on Bud Mountain, he was the son of the late Walter Lester and Isabell Belcher Lester. Willie was a member and ordained Deacon of Sand Gap Old Regular Baptist Church. He loved being outdoors, fishing, hunting, sitting on his porch and feeding his birds. He loved his grandchildren dearly. He enjoyed joking and saying “It will cost you a quarter”, when you asked him for something.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law, John Whitt; mother-in-law, Melissa Whitt; four brothers and three sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory includes his wife of 59 years, Freda Lester; sons, Robin Lester and wife Kathy, and Tommy Lester; daughters, Mary Kershner and husband Joe, and Twila Whitt and husband Jerry; siblings, Roger Lester and wife Marie (whom he raised as a son after the death of his parents), Mildred Goode and husband Dallas “Tink” (whom he raised as a daughter after the death of his parents), Mason Lester, and Harold Lester and wife Goldie; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Friends may gather with the family Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 12-1pm at New Hope Old Regular Baptist Church on Bud Mountain.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 1pm at the church with Rev. Bryce Phillips, Rev. Vern Blankenship, Rev. Lonnie Mullins and Rev. Russell McCoy officiating.
Burial will follow at Lusk Cemetery in Herndon Hights with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
