On Friday, January 29, 2021, while surrounded by his loving family, Bill completed his course and was welcomed into Heavens Gates following a brief illness.
Born January 26, 1947 in Whitby, WV to the late Jennings and Elsie Smith Reed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Bevins and Roger Reed, and special nephews, Lee Reed and Wayne Norris.
He was the late Pastor and Lifetime Member of the Community Baptist Church of Coal City, where he pastored for over 30 years. He was a retired coal miner after 42 years of service. Then he later retired in 2016 as a Service Tech from Fairchild International and GE Mining. Bill enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Kathy Norris Reed; daughter, Kerri Wilson of Gallatin, TN; sons, Andy and wife, Dreama, Eddie and wife, Margaret all of Coal City; daughter Patty Watkins and husband, Ernie of Coal City; grandchildren, Scottie Wilson and wife, Savanna, Sarah Mollett and husband, Branden, Lindsay Reed, Justin Watkins, Miranda Sexton, Drew Reed, and Kimmie Blackburn; his great-grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, Sabrina, Elsie, Eli, and Zeke; sister, Wilma Keffer of Coal City; brother, Dallas and wife, Barbara of Coal City; sister, Wanda Matherly and husband, Mike of Glen Morgan; as well as numerous brother and sisters-in-law; special nieces and nephews on the Reed and Norris side; special friends, Jack Fairchild and Butch Cooper; as well as his fur buddies, Reggie, Fluffy, Carpet, and Doug.
There will be a walk thru visitation with friends and family Wednesday from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. In keeping with the Mandate issued by the Governor of the state of WV Facial Coverings must be worn at all times while in the building and social distancing of 6 feet must be followed. For the safety of the family and the other guests.
Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic the services to celebrate the life of William “Bill” Reed will be private. Following the services Bill will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends, Scottie Wilson, Justin Watkins, Drew Reed, Branden Mollett, Ed and Jeff Keaton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Earl Bolen, Skibo Kipps, Doug Hylton, Jerry Price, and Richard Berry.
The family would also like to express our gratitude to Dr. Garland and the entire CCU staff at Raleigh General Hospital, with special thanks to Janelle for your care and compassion and to Linda for making a way for us to spend his birthday with him, and to Hope who took such good care of him, answering my endless questions and for showing us such compassion and for letting us be with him during his final hours.
And to the congregation of the Community Baptist Church of Coal City: thank you for your devotion you have showed our family over the last 30+ years and your continued love and support during this trying time.
