Velma was born in Ashe County, NC, on May 17, 1931 to Fred A. White and Pearl H. Osborne White.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Chester (Chuck) Griffith and her beloved niece, Nancy White Shrewsbury. She was preceded in death also by her brother, William C. White, and sister-in-law Phyllis Thompson White.
She is survived by her brother, Howard White and wife Carolyn of Daniels, WV, two nephews, Chris White and wife Lisa of Sinks Grove, WV, Jeff White and wife Melba of New Bern, NC and one niece, Karen White of Beckley. She also leaves behind four great nieces; three great nephews; six great-great nieces and six great-great nephews and one great-great-great nephew that was born shortly after her death. She also leaves her very dear friends, Tony and Patsy Crosby and family of Palm Bay.
Velma and Chuck had no children of their own, but ALL nieces, nephews and all others were thought of as her own. She never met a stranger and made friends quickly. She was warm hearted, kind, and was loved by all that knew her.
Velma loved the Lord and enjoyed talking about God and his plans for us all. She had many friends that will miss her dearly. She left us on the morning of Mother's Day, so she spent it with her Mom in Heaven.
We will be holding a Memorial Service and interment on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 1:00pm for family and friends to celebrate her life at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity in the Chapel of Faith.
