Sonny was born October 5th, 1931 in Ravencliff, WV. He was the son of the late Hugo and Evelyn Wavie Stewart Schuman. He was a retired coal miner, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, and a member of Maxwell Hill Baptist Church in Beckley. He also guided tours at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine in retirement.

Sonny had so many special friends and caregivers give their time and energy in his last years. Special thanks to Jim McVey, Ron Lefler, and David Chade.
