Sharon Kaye Harsanyi unexpectedly died in her home in Prosperity, WV, on October 29, 2022, at the age of 76.
Born to Carl and Clarice Bailey, of Prosperity, WV, she was very diverse. Her dad (a marksman himself in the Army), taught her at an early age to shoot a rifle. She excelled at this and had aspirations of joining the U.S. Olympics Rifle Team.
Ultimately, she married Captain William S. Harsanyi (USN) and travelled the world as a military wife. She lived in many places, including Hawaii, Guam, Korea, and the Philippines. She enjoyed organizing charities and hosting dinner parties for dignitaries.
Giving was her nature. The Operation Smile charity was very dear to her heart. For years, she took children on dangerous dirt roads in the Philippines to doctors, so they could heal their cleft lips.
Sharon Kaye was kind, fun-loving, spontaneous, and always up for an adventure. She had a silliness about her and a twinkle in her eye like her dad.
She was a wonderful friend to have in difficult times. She went out of her way for those she cared about, and sought to reach out with positivity on a regular basis to old and new friends alike. She had a way of making people feel special.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and granddaughter Billie Etop.
Sharon Kaye is survived by daughter Kathy Lukas (Etop Sos); grandchildren Edleen Wainit (Clay), Clarice Graham (Kurt), and Chris Etop; special nephews and nieces Nicholas Harsanyi, Garry Alan Harsanyi (Kim), Erika Harsanyi, Allison Harsanyi, and Diana Watkins (Trent); special cousins Tami Horwitz (Jeff), Lyle Miller (Lisa), Don Bailey, Belinda Hill (Paul), Nikki Cook, Greg Cook (Celeste); and cherished friends Connie Snuffer (Larry) and Annie Austin (Rich).
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Cranberry Baptist Church at 201 Cranberry Drive in Beckley, WV. Refreshments will follow at the church. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Sharon Kaye was very devoted to her faith, and her love for the Lord carried her through the peaks and valleys of life.
“When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart.”
