Roger Dean Hicks

Roger Dean Hicks 65, of Beckley, left this world suddenly to be with the Angels, Friday July 15, 2016. Born October 22, 1950 he was the son of the late Lawton Hicks and Goldie Smith Hicks Compton of Cool Ridge, WV. Roger was a gifted musician, with a career that spanned from touring with Kitty Wells, Sonny James, and a regular on TV shows, such as Hee Haw. He traveled the world entertaining with his quick wit and warm personality. Well known locally for often organizing and performing charity events for someone in need or just cause. He played all types of music from gospel to country to rock and roll. Roger was proceeded in death by his mother Goldie Smith Hicks Compton, his stepfather Lawton Hicks, and a brother Denny Ray Hicks. Roger is survived by his brother Russell Hicks of White Oak, WV., Nieces Angela Shipiro Hicks of Nashville, TN., Lindsey Gipe and Her husband Tyler of Costa Mesa, CA, Jennifer Hicks Dodd of Nashville, TN., and Holly Hicks Singleton and her Husband Matt of Nashville TN. Roger will sadly be missed by longtime best friends Danny Cooper, Robert and Jacqueline Jarrell, Mike Setliff, Buddy and Wonzie Setliff, Steve Sparks, Bunny Campbell, Candice White Billy Payne, his cat Katie and many many fans. If you met Roger, you were a friend and a friend he would help in anyway. Friends may gather with the family Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 11-1pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 1pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
