Robert “Freddie” Daniel Bell, age 72, of Sophia, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Born on December 7, 1947 in Rhodell, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Sammy Bell and Katherine Brandstetter Bell.
“Freddie” as he was known by family and friends was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a gunsmith who enjoyed competitive shooting. He had a love and passion for camping on the Greenbrier River with his family, especially his grandkids, and friends. “Freddie” attended Sophia First Baptist Church and worked as a coal miner for 27 years for Westmoreland Coal and Maben Energy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Powell. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Joyce Blevins Bell; son, Randy Bell; his daughters, Kimberly Treadway and husband, Jeff, and Samantha Birchfield and husband, Josh; his grandchildren, Sammy Bell, Emma Shiflett, Jackson Shiflett and Jasper Birchfield; and his brothers, Reverend Sammy Bell and wife, Karen, and Reverend Donald Bell and wife, Patricia.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Reverend Dale Birchfield and Reverend Wayne Nutter officiating. Special music will be by Jeff Treadway.
Burial will be held in the Peace Garden of Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the service.
The family would like to express a special thank you to nurses, Mary and Samantha with Hospice of Southern West Virginia and to his caregiver, Anna for the care and compassion they provided to Mr. Bell and his family.
