Paul David “Tony” Adkins, of Fayetteville, passed away at his home Monday, September 15, 2014 at 6:00 a.m. following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was in his 59th year.
Born March 25, 1955 he was the second child of four children born to the late Giles and Phyllis Adkins in Beckley. He spent his childhood in Sophia, graduated from Sophia High School in 1973, worked for years in several mines including Westmoreland, McAlpine, and Maple Meadow as a mine boss, managed the Rivers End and the Moose Lodge in Oak Hill for years, worked for Dorman Mausoleums in North Carolina and Pine Ridge Masonry in Mississippi; and most recently was a mechanic at the Chief Mining Shop in Glen Daniel.
A lifelong resident of West Virginia, Paul was happy to return to his home state after years spent living in Alabama and North Carolina. Work related travels took him cross- country where he especially enjoyed his time in Texas and northern California.
Paul Adkins made friends wherever he went. He always had a smile and a good story or an ear to give. Paul loved his family and friends, always enjoyed a good race, WVU Football, a home garden and Sunday drives.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 17 years, Karen “Faith” Sauls Adkins; he was the loving father of Kendra Paulette Adkins of Shepherdstown, WV; Amanda Dawn Adkins of Smithsburg, MD; and son, Thomas “Tommy” Giles Adkins of Oak Hill; a step son, Shannon Linville and wife, Joleen of Beaver; step daughter, Rebekah Toler and husband, Eddie “Red” of Oceana; nine grandchildren: Una, Max, Ryder, Loki, Neko, Jaden, Mason, Willow, and Skylar; a brother, Wayne and wife, Brenda of Fairdale; and two sisters, Danna Vance and husband, Rex of Mt. Hope and Deanna Adkins of Beckley; a brother-in-law, Luke Baldwin of Alpharetta, GA and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Paul David Adkins will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor William Cook officiating.
