In 1951, the family moved to Naoma, WV, where she spent her childhood and teenage years. She graduated from Marsh Fork High School at Montcoal, WV, in 1963. She married her husband, Raymond Lee Gwinn, on February 11, 1964. They moved to the Washington, DC, area in 1965. She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church in Woodbridge, VA.
In 1974 her husband started a computer consulting business. In 1976, with two young daughters, she resigned from her career at the United States Coast Guard to join her husband in the business. The consulting business that would eventually become one of a handful of successful tech startups of its time owned by a woman. Along with her husband, she was a pioneer in the technological field. She and Raymond sold their business and retired in 1995 when they returned to Beckley, WV. In her retirement, Patsy enjoyed movies, time with family, having fun and being silly, and shopping.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Frankie Morris, her sisters, Clara Canterbury and Susie Webb all of Naoma, WV, and her nephew Danny Morris of Akron, OH.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Lee Gwinn of Beckley, WV; her daughters, Karen Greth (and husband David) of Front Royal, VA, and Kathy Gwinn of Mt. Rainier, MD; her granddaughters, Maggie Choma (and husband Mike) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Amabel Duffy of Linthicum Heights, MD; and her great-grandson, Nathan Choma of Pittsburgh, PA.
She is also survived by six siblings, Donnie Morris of Akron, OH, James Morris of Hickory, NC, Vernon Morris of Naoma, WV, Linda Cottrell of Naoma, WV, Richard (Bo) Morris (and wife Mary) of Naoma, WV, and Robbie Morris (and wife Millie) of Hickory, NC; and lifelong friend, Judy Cramer of Fredericksburg, VA.
Surviving nephews and nieces are Donald Morris, Eugene Canterbury, Pam Webb, Tina Canterbury, Richard Morris, Betty Scott, Peggy Bone, Debbie Morris, Melissa Teague, Tammy Cottrell, Kenny Cottrell, Tony Canterbury, James Morris, Patty Meyers, Karuna Morris, Robbie Morris, Judy Morris, Jenny Morris, Ricky Morris, Adam Morris.
According to the guidelines outlined by the CDC, the family has asked that a private committal service be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Park. Services will be available for viewing via Facebook Live Feed at https://www.facebook.com/blueridgefuneral/ A public memorial service celebrating Patsy's life will be scheduled at a later date.
