Michael Lee Lykens, 59, of Eunice, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at his home following an extended illness. Born November 5, 1956, Michael was the son of the late Frederick Earl Lykens and Kate Pauline Massey Lykens. He was a 1975 graduate of Marsh Fork High School, a graduate of Beckley College, a 1979 graduate of Concord College with a BA in Social Studies Education, and a graduate of WV College of Graduate Studies (Marshall University) with a MA in Special Education. He was employed by the Raleigh County Board of Education for 36 years, working at Pettus Elementary, Marsh Fork High School and Liberty High School. He also coached volleyball, girls basketball and softball, sponsored the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Model UN clubs at Liberty High School. He was also employed as an Authorized Lay Preacher for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A). Michael was a member of the Whitesville Presbyterian Church, where he was a Pastor and sang in the choir. He loved to dance, listen to music, cook, travel, fish and spend time with the family, especially the children. Those left to cherish his memory include his twin brother, Patrick of Logan; a sister-in-law, Lee Ann Lykens of Cerado; one niece, Amanda Ciochetty of Beaver; children, Kamryn, Gavin and Brie; two nephews, James Patrick Lykens (Chelsie Haynes) and their children, Evangeline and Clara; and Jason Lee Lykens (Natalie Campbell); three aunts, Patsy Persinger (Donnie) of Richwood, Betty Shepard (Michael) of Phoenix, Arizona and Mildred Norris, several cousins and many friends and former students. Michael’s niece and nephews are eternally grateful for his role in their lives. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Whitesville Presbyterian Church. Friends may gather with the family at 2:00 pm.
