Martha "Ellen" Sanders was born on June 18, 1940 in Oceana, West Virginia to her late parents Cecil and Lenora (Greene) Phelps. She went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2020 in Beckley, West Virginia at the age of 79.
Ellen is preceded in death by her late husband of 33 years, Joseph "Sonny" Ray Sanders and her parents. Ellen is survived by her son Joseph "Joe" Ray (Kathy) Sanders; daughter Lynn Worley; grandchildren Katelyn Sanders and Starr Walker; great-grandchildren Braden Toler and Tyler Kenneda; 3 siblings; and her loving canine companions Angel and Max.
Ellen was a devoted Christian who enjoyed going to church. She also loved to spend her time cross-stitching, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and sitting on her front porch.
The family would like to thank the staff at Raleigh Center, Mary's Garden, and Bowers Hospice House for their compassion and wonderful care given to Ellen.
A private committal service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia in Ellen's memory.
