Born Margaret Ann Buckland, on November 3, 1946, to parents Wayman and Zetta Buckland, she was raised in Sand Branch and Maple Fork with siblings (Connie, Drema, Gary, Ray and Roger). Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by their son, Brian Edward Williams in 1968, and son-in-law, Kevin Richmond in 2010.
Margaret was a 1964 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She married the love of her life, Glen “Glenny” Williams on Sept. 29, 1966. Together they have two daughters; Melissa Ryan (Jeff) and Susan Richmond, both of Beckley; three grandchildren, Ashley Thompson (Kyle) of Cross Lanes, WV; Matthew Ryan (Katelyn) and Aubree Richmond, both of Beckley, WV; and two great grandchildren, Karmyn and Kane Thompson of Cross Lanes, WV, and two great grandbabies due in the Spring.
Her greatest titles here on Earth will always be “mom” and “grandma”. She loved spending time with her family, as she was always involved in their church, daughters and grandkids activities. Margaret was a homemaker for many years, and worked at Belk, especially seasonally as a Gift wrapper.
Margaret and Glenny were members and attended faithfully at Maple Fork Freewill Baptist, where she was involved in the Ladies Auxiliary. She loved doing her “chicken scratch” for her beautiful quilts, loved participating with the Maple Fork Reunion, and was very proud of their 55 and 57 Chevy’s. You’d often see Margaret and Glenny driving around and they loved participating in the Maple Fork parade, as Glenny would tease her that he had a hard time changing gears because she sat so close.
Margaret had many talents, cooking being one of them. She loved cooking for her family, as Sunday’s were always Family dinners. Margaret was a friend to many, and was blessed with many friends herself, a few being Margaret Painter, her best friend for 66 years; Carolyn Rinehart and Karen Wesley, being her neighbors for over 48 years.
She and Glenny always helped those in need often. As part of their own personal ministry, they were always known to visit shut-ins, whether it being at the nursing home, hospitals, or their home.
Services will be held on Thursday, November 09, 2023 at 11 AM with Jim Bowyer officiating. A gathering of friends and family will take place on Wednesday, November 08, 2023 evening from 6 – 8 PM.
Pallbearers are Matthew Ryan, Jeff Ryan, David Pack, Ray Buckland, Carl Murdock, and Kyle Thompson. Honorary pallbearer is Ross Painter.
