Mr. Lionel "Griff" Morris Griffis

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 ½ years, Flora; daughter, Kimberli Kresslein and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Xavier and Katarina Kresslein; and sisters-in-law, Mickie Lavis, Rachel Bowman, Ruby Gill and Sherri Mitchem. He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Bertha Griffis of Van, West Virginia, grandson Zachary Aaron Kresslein, and his two best friends and brothers-in-law, John and Paul Mitchem.

Lionel attended Fairfax Baptist Church where he was involved in numerous activities. He served on The Board of Education and was Sunday School Leader for several years. He loved sports, especially golf. He was a member of the Washington Bell Golf Association, for which he served as President and Master of Ceremonies. Lionel also loved his country serving as a Sergeant by the end of his three years in the U.S. Army.

Visitation services will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 2:00 pm, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens located at 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, WV 25801. Military burial will follow at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
