Judith Ann Burns, 72, of Beckley, W.Va. died October 31. “Judy” Burns, daughter of Howard and Edith Bower of Morgantown, W.Va., and wife of Roger Burns, passed away surrounded by her family at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. She and her husband Roger celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2015.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Todd Burns and Courtney Cooper; two grandchildren, Mitchell and Gavin Burns; her sister, Janet Cunningham; her mother-in-law, Leona Burns; daughter-in-law, Lollie Burns and son-in-law, James Cooper. She was preceded in death by her brother, Don.
Judy was proud to serve as an employee of the Federal Government for 42 years, most of which was spent at the Mine Safety and Health Academy in Beckley where she served as administrative assistant to the superintendent.
Judy was talented at baking, sewing and making crafts. She was kind and generous and it brought her great joy to do things for family, friends and coworkers. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where she formerly served as church secretary. She was an active member of the Prosperity Homemakers Association. She loved camping, visiting family and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 4 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. There will be a private funeral service for family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favorite charity, the Alzheimer’s Association, (alz.org).
