John "Johnny" Wade Whittaker

John Wade Whittaker, 71, of Sophia, WV went home to be with his Lord and Savior with his loving wife of 17 years by his side on March 7, 2022 following a long battle with cancer.

Born at Coloric, in Wyoming County, WV on August 23, 1950 to the late Gracie Irene and John Emory Whittaker.

John attended the Lester First Church of God. He enjoyed planting and growing a vegetable garden. John also enjoyed lending a hand to anyone that needed help.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several family members.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Rosemary Whittaker of Sophia; sons, Carl Whittaker of Beckley, Wayne Wilson of Beaver, Jeremy Wilson of NC, John Whittaker and Jason Whittaker; several grandchildren and one great-grandson; sisters, Nanny Acord and husband, Leonard of Soak Creek, Connie Graham and husband, James of Odd, Lorraine Whittaker, Betty Whittaker Odd; brothers, Ray Whittaker of Odd, Larry Whittaker of Odd, Kenny Whittaker of Odd; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Dennis and Jan for their faithful love and care they showed toward Johnny while taking care of John and to the many staff at Bowers Hospice House. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Bowers Hospice House or Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

A service to celebrate the life of John Wade Whittaker will be held 12PM Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Dale Birchfield officiating. Following the service John will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Pallbearers will be members of the church family.

Friends may gather with the family from 11:00AM until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
