John L. Mullens, 73, of Fairdale went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the VA Medical Center after a long illness. Born July 15, 1941 in Beckley, he was the son of the late George Mullens and Amilia Mullens. Mr. Mullens was a retired Army veteran, and a retired coal miner from Elk Run Coal Company. He was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church. He was a loving and caring husband and father, who had many friends and family, and will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Roberts, and brothers, Danny Mullens, Jim Mullens, and Cecil Mullens. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of fifty years, Pauline F. Mullens; three daughters: Cheri D. Mullens and her two daughters, Maggie E. Mullens and Katie A. Richmond. Angela G. Stover, her husband, Matthew R. Stover, their daughter, Cynthia G. Taylor and her husband, Damon A. Taylor, and their sons, Jacob A. Perdue and James T. Perdue and his wife, Brittani N. Perdue, their son, Jayce T. Perdue and daughter, Baleigh K. Perdue. Beverly L. York and her husband Ricky D. York and her son, Donny G. Hawley II and his sons Conner J.A. Hawley and Ian T. Hawley, her daughter, Kimber G. Hawley and her son Jeremiah L. Hawley and daughter, Gracie Raines; and numerous family and friends. The family of John L. Mullens would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the 3rd and 4th floors of the VA Medical Center in Beckley. A memorial service will be held in Mr. Mullens’ honor at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 2pm with Pastor Mike Sisson officiating.
