John Massey III

(Little John)

John Massey 38 passed away Monday January 20th, 2025, at Charleston Memorial Hospital following an unexpected illness.

Born August 18th, 1986, at Charleston Memorial Hospital he was the son of John Massey Jr. and Gwen Mohler.

Little John served in the United States Army where he received many accolades for his achievements while he served.

Little John was a Licensed Electrician by trade and worked for the coal mining industry in West Virginia.

Little John was a member of Renewal Chapels Church in Huntington WV. He served in his church anywhere he was needed. He was his pastors right hand man when it came to fixing up the church.

Little John loved to hunt in the WV mountains and fish in the refreshing green waters of the many rivers and lakes WV offers. Although the war left him in turmoil these places brought him some solace and peace.

Little John was proceeded in death by his grandfather John Massey Senior and Uncle Carmel Burnside III.

Those left to cherish his memory are his father John Massey II of Sang Creek, Mother Gwen Mohler of Hickory NC, three children Johnson, Clowee, Maggie of Elizabeth WV. Sister Tiffany Massey of Hickory NC, Grand Mother Carol Massey of Sang Creek, Grandparents Junior & Phyllis Burnside of Hickory NC, Aunt Kathy Massey of Sang Creek, Uncle Mark Massey, Aunt Tammy Pettry of Hickory NC, Aunt Pamala Hickory NC Wallace, many cousins Nieces, & Nephews, and a special cousin Jonathan Clendenin

Will all keep Little John’s memory close and their love for him strong.

Celebration of life service will be held Saturday February 1st. Visitation will be 4:00pm – 5:00pm Funeral will be at 5:00pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley WV. Friends may come one hour before service begins.

Officiants will be, Pastor Mark Booth, Dr. David Pettry Dr. Tammy Pettry.
