Born November 27, 1968 in Beckley, West Virginia. From the very beginning, Joey’s infectious smile and big brown eyes captured everyone he met. That was a trade-mark of his life-long winning personality. He became a foreman in the mines, but his love for construction led him to venture out into his own company, which he named “Mustang Construction”, after his school mascot. He attended Mt. Hope High School. His yellow equipment with the raring mustang was well known in many counties and several states. He enjoyed and inspired his employees, especially PJ Gray, who was a dear friend. Everything he did was thorough, neat and fast.
He was especially proud of his work on First Church of God in Lester. Joey had many passions. He loved the Lord and first accepted Christ when he attended Maple Fork Baptist Church, where he was guided by Rev. Robert Barley. Chuck and Janet Cooper also guided him throughout his life. He attended New Beginnings Church with Pastor Lonnie Grear. His life radically changed. His gift of reaching people allowed him to lead church services and to witness and help anyone in need. He also enjoyed listening to Elvis, riding motorcycles, his dog, traveling and family get-togethers.
Joey’s family was a great joy in his life. He had two children whom he loved dearly; daughter, Kassie Voiers Conner (Jeremy); son, Joey Scott Voiers II (9/13/2000- 6/20/2016); he truly loved his sweet step-daughter, Trisha Cole and enjoyed being a grandfather to his two grandchildren, Lela & Ezekiel (Zeke) who called him “Papaw Joey”.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Joey Scott Voiers II; step-father, Les Hatcher; step-mother, Verna Mae Williams Voiers; aunt, Dorothy Williams.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Kassie Conner and husband Jeremy; step-daughter, Trisha Cole; grandchildren, Lela and Ezekiel Conner; half-brothers, Johnnie Ray Voiers and Leslie Hatcher.
Joey touched and was loved by many. Clinton and Karen Smith gave him the unconditional love of a parent. He often lived with them, Aunt Betty and Jim Hartsog. His cousins Frank, Seth and Greg Mann were all like brothers to him, while cousins Tammy Perdue and Cynthia Williams were also an integral part of his life. He loved spending time with the Sunday Morning Breakfast Club, especially Paul Roop, and Jerry and Glen Davis.
