Jerry Lynn Smith

Jerry Smith, 75, of Beckley, WV, passed away on February 1, 2023 at home following a heart attack. He was born in McAlpin, WV, to Luther and Francis Smith on October 4th, 1947. He grew up at Smith homeplace on Old Eccles Road, Beckley, where he formed many great memories with cousins and life-long friends.

After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1966, he joined the AirForce and married his sweetheart, Polly Ann Smith. After serving four years overseas, they returned to the Beckley area and in a few years built a home next to his parents where they have resided for most of their 56 years of marriage.

Jerry and Polly had three children – Lori Smith Lane, Todd Allen Smith, and John Joseph (Joey) Smith.

Jerry retired after a long career in the coal mining industry. Following retirement one of his favorite activities was fishing with friends on Smith Mountain Lake.

Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Joey, his parents, and a sister.

He is survived by his loving wife, Polly, daughter Lori, son Todd, two grandchildren, Tatum and Henley, a sister, Donna, and a brother, Jimmy.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Service will begin at 1 PM with Pastor Vernon Sears officiating. The family will be accepting visitors from 11 AM until the time of the service. A burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
