Jerry Lee Bailey, 70, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Raleigh General Hospital. He fought a hard fight to beat COVID. He was born March 26, 1951, in Charleston, WV to the late David H. Clay Bailey and Helen Bailey. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Beachum and Della Bailey and maternal grandparents James and Hannah Gross all of Marion, VA, also a brother William D. Bailey (2019) mother and father-in-law Alfred and Marie Peters, Brothers- in law James Peters and Robert Peters and sister-in-law Peggy Bailey.
He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren unconditionally and was so proud of them. He was loved by everyone who ever met him. Always with a smile on his face. He had a contagious sense of humor always making people laugh. He never complained no matter how he may have felt. He was a pillar in his neighborhood and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved to cut everyone’s grass, help his kids and grandkids in any way he could. He especially enjoyed his morning routine of reading his Bible and drinking coffee. He loved to spend time at Busy Bee Bakery folding boxes and he loved riding his motorcycle with his wife, sister, and brother-in-law.
He graduated in 1969 from Marsh Fork High school and spent 42 years in the coal mines. He loved everything about mining and would still talk about digging coal to any and everyone.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Bailey of Crab Orchard. She was his other half, his true soul mate. A son Jerry Bailey II and wife Nicky of Mt. Hope, WV, Daughter Kimmie and husband Danny Gill of Crab Orchard. Grandchildren, Brittany and husband Jacob Cline of Mt. Hope WV and Justin Bailey, Sammy Gill, Sydney Gill, and Arrora Gill of Crab Orchard, a special adopted family of Chris and Samantha Allen of Crab Orchard and Chloe and Eli. A sister Linda and husband Jerry Ramsey of Beckley and a brother Charles and wife Sissy Bailey of Charleston. Numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers
Graveside service will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at 2:00 pm.
