He was born on November 22, 1924 to the late Howard and Zora Gwaltney Hall.
Jim grew up in Mill Creek of Wyoming County during the Great Depression. As a teen he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, immediately after the Pearl Harbor attack he joined the United States Army, where he proudly served during WWII. Jim worked in the Natural Gas Industry until his retirement. Jim and his wife Lena May worked their farm in Bolt together for many years. They were always involved in community and civic events. Jim was very much a part of bringing to our area Lake Stephens, where he has been camping for many years. He loved to bowl and did this until his illness in March.
Jim and Lena spent winters in Florida for many years until health problems caused them to stay closer to home.
The love of his life, Lena May Nidiffer Hall passed away in 2010. Jim Lena were both saved at the Bolt Fundamental Baptist Church as young adults and later attended Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church. After Lena’s passing, he attended Eccles Baptist Church.
Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister Juanita Trimble.
He is survived by his children and their families, Larry (Sue Ellen) Nidiffer and their children; Amy (Chris) Martin. Cory (Callie), Ben and Will Martin, Todd (Cara Beth) Nidiffer and their children Laren and Anna Grace. Kimmie (Cheryl) Hall and their children Jeremy (Misty) Hall and their children Natalie, (Santori) and their son Tatum, Meredith, Colton, Laken, Makenzie, Claire, and Jackson. Ashley (Jackie) Scarbrough and boys Dean and Aiden. Kristen (Dan) Benge and son Gage. Garry (Peggy) and their children Daniel (Marilyn) Hall and daughter Paydin, Jonathan (Rebecca) Hall and son Landon, Lindsay (Cody) Acord and sons Chase and Brody. Cheryl (Sam) Acord and their children Heather (Rick) Nicolau and daughters Shelby and Arwen, and Adam Acord. One niece Angela (Chris) Kirchmeyer.
Services will be held Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 3 PM with Pastor Corey Brooks officiating at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. The family will begin receiving visitors at 1 PM until the time of the service. Military Honors conducted by Mercer County Honor Guard will follow the service. Jim will be laid to rest during a private entombment on Monday at the Peace Mausoleum in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers.
Jim requested donations of sympathy be sent to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, who so faithfully cared for him in the end.
