Ivan Acord Ivan Acord 88, of Hotchkiss passed away on Friday January 27, 2017 after a long battle with many health issues. Born November 15, 1928, at Hotchkiss he was the son of the late Clarance and Etter Tedder Acord. Ivan was a retired coal miner with 32 years of service, he last worked for the Slab Fork Coal Company at Slab Fork. He was a born again Christian, and a faithful and dedicated member of Lester Baptist Church in Lester, he was faithful to fill his seat whenever the doors were open as long as his health permitted. Ivan will be greatly missed by his brothers, and sister whom he dearly loved, and a couple that he thought of as his own. Ivan was so blessed to have a loving church family they were always willing and happy to lend a helping hand no matter when or where they were called upon. The food, visits, and prayers were such a blessing to him during his time of illness. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son John Acord, and his daughter Patty Peters, Four sisters: Ester Acord, Mary Keaton, Margaret Richards, and Ramona Keaton. Five brothers: Manuel, Claude, Willie, Elson, and Charles Acord, and also by his wife of 34 years Freda Mae Meador Acord. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 17 years Thelma Mills Acord, Two sons Timmy Acord(Angel), and Allen Acord both of North Carolina, his daughter Patsy Druey (James) of Yulee Florida. His step-children Teresa Lane (Johnny) of Herndon Heights, Gary Mills (Leisha) of Slab Fork, Allen Mills(Jennifer) of North Carolina, Russell Bailey(Connie) of Sophia, Floyd Bailey(Tammy) of North Carolina, Donald Bailey(Brenda) of South Carolina, his two sisters Janet Hylton of Daniels, Annarae Glasko(Roman) of Pax, Three Brothers David Acord of Pax and Frederick Acord (Michelle) of Daniels Melvin Acord (Betty) of Georgia. Three brothers in law, Walter Keaton of Hotchkiss, Carl Keaton of Meadow Bridge, and Johnny Richards of Glen White. 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several step grandchildren, and host of relatives, friends to mourn his loss. Service will be Thursday February 2, 2017 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian McAlister officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Ivan’s family would like to thank everyone who has been praying for us during this very sad and difficult time. For all of those who have sent food, called, stopped by or sent us messages, you are a real blessing to us and we love you all. We would also like to thank all of the health care providers, his team of doctors, especially Dr. Oye, his home health nurses Connie Green, and Kay Aliff, and many others to numerous to mention. We love you all dearly. There will always be a vacant place in our home but we know he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven. He was always handing out gospel tracts, spreading the gospel, wherever he went he was telling people about the Lord. Our loss is heavens gain. Rest in Peace our beloved Husband, Dad, and grand Dad until we meet again to be with our Lord forever.
