Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Borghild N. (Vang) Arterberry.
Irene graduated from Harry E. Wood High School in Indianapolis, IN, class of 1966.
After school she spent time working at McDonald’s in Oak Hill for 7 years and Walmart in Fayetteville for 13 years.
In her free time, Irene enjoyed and cherished her time with her loved ones and playing with her grandbabies. She was known for her fun-loving nature, even into the last few days of her time here.
She was a Christian and attended Dothan Community Church since 1988.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sons, Terry W. Carroll and Gary E. Carroll; a sister, Norene Briggs; and a brother, Orville G. Arterberry.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Paul Martin of Hilltop; sons, Shannon “Paul” Martin of Dothan, Brian Carroll (Crystal) of Spring Lake, NC and Ira Martin (Jessica) of Cunard; a daughter, Paula Hornsby of Hilltop; grandsons, Randy Green (Samantha) of Florida, Terry Green (Sallie) of Florida, Ashton Martin of Cunard and Elijah Martin of Cunard; a granddaughter, Sataira Martin of Cunard; as well 5 great-grandkids and the whole Martin clan.
Funeral services for Irene will be on Thursday, March 20th, at 1pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Fuller. The family will receive visitors one hour prior. Irene will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the service.
