Helen Joyce Merritt

Helen Merritt passed away Monday, April 17th, 2023. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her grandchildren will always cherish memories of her flash light puppet shows and endless games played at her kitchen table. Her daughter and daughter-in-law will remember road trips and all the laughter and plain good fun that happened when you were with our Mom. She left beautiful memories that will endure for the rest of our lives. She always said the most important times of her life were when God blessed her with her children and when she got saved on October 25, 1998. Having a (mother) like Bessie Bennett made her appreciate family and love. She was so blessed.

Helen was born September 22,1939 in Pear, West Virginia. She was pre-deceased by her son Robert Dean Merritt (12/16/2012), her mother, Bessie Bennett (5/21/2008) and by her father, Aubrey Harless Bennett (1/30/1990). Other family members that have passed include her brother, Tommy Bennett (2/18/2019) and his wife, Carol Bennett (1/6/2021), brother-in-law, George Smith (6/23/2020), and nephew, George Smith, Jr. (6/11/2014). Frank B. Merritt, her ex-husband passed away on 7/22/2015

She is survived by her precious daughter, Joy Ann Merritt and daughter-in-law/best friend, Iris Merritt. She also leaves three grandchildren, Angeline Renee Merritt, Anthony Robert Merritt and Chelsea Ellen Lamey. She was blessed with seven great grandchildren, Chloe Wilson, Codi Wilson, Morgan Goodman, Stevie Goodman, Hartley Merritt, Quinten Lamey and Lorelei Lamey.

She leaves a brother, Wayne Bennett (Wife, Diana) and her sister, Judy Smith, as well as nieces and nephews that were a very important part of her life.

She wants to honorably mention her nephew George Smith, Jr (deceased) and her niece Tammy Hart, who were both so generous and kind to her over the years.

A graveside service for Helen will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, West Virginia.

Helen will be laid to rest in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, West Virginia.
