Blueie was born October 9, 1928 in Quinwood, WV to the late Hobart and Esther Goddard.
Blueie graduated from Meadow Bridge High School in 1948 and retired after 40 plus years in the coal mining industry.
Blueie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Thelma; brothers Berlyn, Melvin, Eugene, Kermit and twin brother Darell “Blackie”. He was the last member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his son Joseph (Angela) Goddard and daughters Mary Ann (Joe) Paljug and Paula Sgro; grandchildren Brandon Sgro, Dr. Nicole Goddard, Dr. Brian (Kay) Paljug, Dr. Matthew Goddard and Jason (Hayley) Paljug; and one great-grandchild Oliver Paljug. Also surviving are long-time friends Delma, David and Nancy Gentry, and special childhood friend Granville Zopp. Blueie was the special “Uncle Blue” to many nieces and nephews.
Blueie loved all sports, especially bowling and baseball. He and Thelma never missed an Independence High School baseball game, where you could always find them in the concession stand. He was always known as the “Candy Man” to all the kids (and most of their parents) wherever he went. Blueie was always a clown with a heart and personality as big as the moon.
