Glen Elwood Blankenship was born on October 26, 1933 to Rebecca (Raines) and Clell Blankenship in Freeburn, Kentucky. Glen was married to Nellie (Hunt) Blankenship for over 70 years. Nellie had passed Christmas Eve this past year.
Glen was an employee of Consolidated Coal Company for 35 years, working at the Itmann and Roland mines in Wyoming and Raleigh Counties. He spent many of those years as the Superintendent of the Itmann 3B mines.
As a devoted couple, Glen and Nellie enjoyed their time together, spending countless hours swinging in the gazebo or holding hands while watching their favorite television shows. Many evenings were spent playing dominoes or cards with their close friends from the church and neighborhood.
In addition to being a loving husband, Glen was a caring father of three, Glen E. Blankenship Jr. (Deana) of Baton Rouge, LA, Paul Blankenship (Kim) of Mount Dora, FL, and Michelle Blankenship Leonard (Bruce) of Mullens, WV. He had seven grandchildren, Kristi (Sean), Holly (Brian), Alyssa, Michael (Denise), Aoibheall (William), Terri (Jason), and Candace (Dewayne). He had sixteen great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church, where Glen and Nellie were members for many years. In lieu of flowers donations to the church would be appreciated.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 26th at Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church, located at 123 Hoist Road, Stanaford, WV 25927. There will be a visitation at noon, with a service at 1:00. A short graveside ceremony will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5251 Robert C Byrd Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
