Edward Craven Snipe Harless, age 86, of Crab Orchard, WV, passed away on June 29, 2024 at Bowers Hospice House, following a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 6, 1938 in Helen, WV to Venry Kent and Blanche Craven Harless.
Edward graduated from Pax High School in 1956. To many people growing up in Pax he was known as Snipe and that nickname carried him through life. He went into the Army in 1956, and was sent to Korea in 1957, where he served in the Korean War. He married Jane Lynn Riffe on April 25, 1970 and they spent 54 years building a life together.
Edward worked as a Truck Driver for many years at E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, where he hauled dynamite all over the United States. In later years, he was the Maintenance Supervisor at DuPont which later became Explosive Technology Inc. He retired and opened his own small business where he did engine repair and air conditioner work in his own garage. In earlier days, he enjoyed motorcycles, hunting with friends and family, tinkering on old cars, taking his hot rods to car shows, reading, and being with his family. Later in life he enjoyed feeding birds and deer in the backyard, watching murder mysteries with his wife, taking it easy, and being with his family. Edward was a member of the Crab Orchard Missionary Baptist Church and the The Oak Hill Lodge No. 120. He was PM at the MacDonald-Warren Lodge No. 103, A.F. & A.M.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Venry and Blanche Harless, his brother Billy Kent Harless, his father and mother-in-law, Willard “Bud” and Edith Jane Riffe, and his son-in-law Paul E. Landy.
Edward is survived by his wife Jane Lynn, his daughter, Nancy Harless-Landy, son, Eddie Harless and wife, Brei. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Madison Harless and boyfriend Adam Daniels and their daughter June, Emma Harless and Ella Harless, Abby Atterson and Conner Atterson. Sister-in-law Charlotte Harless, niece Sheryl Saul (Brian), and nephew Kent Harless (Deena).
A graveside funeral service at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens will be held on Monday, July 8th, 2024 at 3:00 pm, Mausoleum #2, with Pastor Dewey Lowe officiating. Entombment will take place at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Mausoleum #2 following the service.
