David retained a unique bond with his great nieces and nephews, otherwise known as his “grandkids”: Jerrad Pack, Colten Taylor, Haley McGraw, and Ashley McGraw, whom he coined as his “Bob”.
David graduated from Clear Fork High School in 1969. After graduation, he was drafted by the United States Army, in which he honorably served his country from 1970-1976. He then became a dedicated and proud employee with Consolidation Coal Company where he helped “kept the lights on” for 22+ years. During this time, he joined and became a lifelong member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), District 17, Local 1330. Upon retirement from mining, David began a second career with the West Virginia Division of Corrections (WVDOC). He loyally devoted 12+ years to Mount Olive Correctional Complex before retiring in 2007.
David enjoyed many hobbies that included searching and digging for ginseng, hunting, gardening, 4-wheeling, camping, bowling, reading, and listening to music. He faithfully attended and watched his West Virginia Mountaineers, NASCAR, and other sporting events.
David displayed very high morals, was kind and compassionate, and well-known in the community for his successful farming and crop-growing skills. He will be remembered by many for his vibrant spirit, contagious smile, and no fear of or objecting to a good time.
