Cleve Mahon Brewer, age 94, of Raleigh, NC and formerly of Prosperity, WV, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Bowers Hospice House. Born on May 21, 1926 in Kilsyth (Fayette County), WV, he was the son of the late Roy Earl Brewer, Sr. and Orva Priscilla Christian Brewer.
Mr. Brewer was a veteran of the Unites States Army having served during World War II. During his service, Mr. Brewer was a prison guard in Germany and served in the Artillery Division. He had a passion for vegetable gardening and loved hunting and the outdoors.
Mr. Brewer was a Charter Member of Faith Baptist Church, formerly Fundamental Baptist Church in Prosperity. He volunteered at Brian’s Safe House and for several community organization and projects throughout the county.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three infant siblings; his brother, Roy Brewer, Jr.; and his sisters, Rachel Skeens and Sharon Vance. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 72 years, Betty Jo Toney Brewer; his children, Laura Lego, Rebecca “Becky” Kirchner, John Brewer and wife, Kathy, Mark Brewer and wife, Lisa, Cleve “Buddy” Brewer, II, Carolyn Dunn, and Susan “Susie” Hughes; 13 grandchildren, Michael Lyttle, Mickey Smoot, Melissa Dorman, Kane Kirchner, Drew Kirchner, John Brewer, Jr., Heather Poland, Aaron Brewer, Lindsey Brooks, Tyler Dunn, Jordan Hughes, Nathan Hughes, and Christian Hughes; many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren; his brother, Richard Brewer and wife, Hazel; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, Monday, May 3, 2021 in the Chapel of Faith Mausoleum of Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Funeral Services will follow in the Mausoleum Chapel at 1:00 pm with Matthew Hill officiating. Military Honors will be held prior to the entombment.
In accordance with the current CDC guidelines, the family and the staff of Blue Ridge Funeral Home ask that those who attend the services wear proper facial coverings and practice social distancing at all times.
