Mark was born in Portland, Oregon on March 22, 1939, and married Carol Louise Roley on January 7, 1961. He was very active in their community serving in numerous organizations, including the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Tualatin Valley Rose Society, United States Power Squadron, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Beaverton, Oregon. Mark also served on the Board of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra in Portland from 1977 to 1980.
An Electrical Engineer by profession, Mark enjoyed sharing his knowledge by teaching several courses, including First Aid and CPR, Celestial Navigation, Firearms Safety, Boating Safety, and various Engineering-related courses.
In September 2019, Mark moved to Colorado with his wife, Carol, to be near their daughter Mary. After Carol’s passing in 2020, Mark later remarried to Kimie Loeffler of Denver, Colorado. While in Colorado, Mark continued his active volunteerism by serving in his church, St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Castle Rock, Colorado and the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra.
Mark is survived by his wife, Kimie Loeffler; son, Larry Balcom, of Tigard, Oregon; daughter, Mary Barnes (Kerry), of Castle Pines, Colorado; sister, Betty Howard, of White Salmon, Washington; stepsister, Donna Parrish, of Oregon City, Oregon; his grandchildren, Alexander Davis, Kimberly Davis, and Samantha Barnes; stepdaughter, Michelle Trujillo (Marco), of Lakewood, Colorado; step-granddaughters, Maiya and Mari Trujillo; and stepson, David Loeffler, of Panama.
