She made friends wherever she went and she went a lot of places. She was born in Indiana and lived in Virginia, Oklahoma, Nebraska, New Mexico, Florida, Texas, Washington, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Oregon and visited countless other states and countries.
Katie was an adventurer, she loved to travel and explore the world with others. Climbing mountains, sailing across the open ocean, kayaking rivers, and camping under the stars. Following a family tradition, she learned to ride a 1886 high wheel bicycle and participated in many national events. Her enthusiasm and joy were born from the enthusiasm and joy of the people whom she shared her experiences. Katie took an extraordinary appreciation of the little things, like a special tea cup, colorful hat or good pair of hiking boots. She anticipated a happy experience for months before it would happen, planning little details to make the surprise or event more fun. A video chat with her nephews and nieces was a prepared event complete with puppets, cat tricks, reading aloud and funny hats.
She was born October 13, 1981 in Madison, Indiana, a small historic town on the Ohio river. Home-schooled by her parents, she learned a special appreciation for things past , following her father through his career in living history museums. She and her mother and siblings worked alongside her father at 18th century Colonial Williamsburg, VA, followed by 19th century history in Indiana at Conner Prairie Museum , and then the 20th Century American frontier in Oklahoma at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Her love of textile arts began in Cicero, Indiana on our family farm. She raised sheep, sheared, spun, dyed and wove their wool, participating in many 4-H projects. She dreamed of one day owning a small sheep farm.
When Katie changed careers from elementary teaching to financial advisor, she continued her love of teaching and serving others through her new position. One of her joys included inspiring her clients to use their Thrivent grants to bless others. Katie noticed peoples’ passions and helped them shine by offering her support and zeal. She enjoyed serving the Lord through the many mission projects shared with LWML ladies. When she was working for other people she worked tirelessly with her whole heart.
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. Psalm 118:29.
