We lost our amazing father, Juan L Garza, unexpectedly in the early morning of Wednesday, April 13th. With the dedication he held for his family and clients, he worked consistently until the day of his passing. His tireless love and devotion to his family and friends was evident in all he did.
Juan was born in Donna Texas on October 12th, 1947 to the parents of Maria Del Carmen Layton and Pablo Z Garza. His mother passed in 1951. Our grandfather moved up to Oregon with Juan and his sister Yolanda in the early 60’s where he attended St Paul High School and participated in football. He met his wife, Inez, while he was in high school. They married in 1965. He earned his associates of science in Auto Mechanics from Clackamas Community College in June, 1970.
He worked on several farms over the years and then transitioned into the nursery business working for Krueger Landscaping and a short time with Teufel Landscaping. It was there that he developed his landscaping skills and started a small business of his own. Our father was very well liked by his clients -- I’m positive he greeted them each visit with his big smile and some sort of joke or story.
Juan enjoyed coaching his daughter’s softball teams and was able to take the “Bad News Bears” to the finals. He participated in the Newberg Softball League with his team for about 3 years. During that time, they attended tournaments around the area bringing his teammates & family together. A roomful of trophies is a testament to their greatness.
We will greatly miss his presence in our lives and will always hold him dearly in our hearts
Juan is survived by his wife Inez Garza; his daughters Carmen M Garza, Tricia Garza, Jules Garza, and Elizabeth Pena Garza; and grandson Antonio Fabian Garza; sister Mary Garza; brothers Hector L Garza, Pablo Garza and Jaime Garza.
