Josie Cosgrove died at 4:25 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland. Josie had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and died in a hospital room surrounded by family. She is survived by her three children and three grandchildren.
A reception will be held at 1pm Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Pegg, Paxson & Springer Funeral Chapel. An 11 a.m. Memorial Mass has been scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2014, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Beaverton. The family suggests a gift to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Josie was born Josephine May Napolitan In Orange County, Calif., of immigrant parents. She had two brothers and a sister all older who all volunteered for military service during WWII. Josie earned her master's in educational psychology from Immaculate Heart College and married John F. Cosgrove in 1959. After moving to Oregon, she worked as a neuro-psychological research technician under Dr. Muriel Lezak, who published the definitive text on the subject.
Josie enjoyed reading and spending time with her children, ice skating, swimming, cross country skiing and hiking. She will be remembered for he fun-loving personality and her innate ability to laugh at herself. The family may be contacted at: josie-memorial@cosgroves.us
