James Tyler Miller was born March 5, 1920. He was born to Mary Graves Miller and Chester A. Miller. Brother to Chester, Frances, Dorothy, and Elizabeth Miller. He is survived by his daughter Susan Wright, his son Stephen Miller; his eight grandchildren Elizabeth, Sarah, Elijah, Amandah, Travis, Faith, Justin and Kevin; and his five great-grandchildren.
Attending the University of Oregon as a young man, he later served in the Army Air Force as an aircraft mechanic during World War II. His employment includes an ice cream parlor, Boeing, Miller Bros. department store, and later Valley Community Presbyterian Church and the Oregon State Highway Dept.
After marrying the love of his life, Carolyn Jean MacDonald, on Valentine’s Day, he settled down and became a father, and later a grandfather and great grandfather. He and Carolyn celebrated over 50 years together. He loved exploring outdoors, and camping which led him to climb to the peak of Mt. Hood three times.
He taught so many life lessons to his family and friends and most importantly, he taught them how to love unconditionally.
A memorial service will be Sunday March 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., at Valley Community Presbyterian Church, 8060 SW Brentwood, Portland. Inurnment will be in Willamette National Cemetery.
