Frances Katherine Martin, (nee Dasovich), age 90, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on August 29, 1931 in Chicago to Luka and Kata Dasovich who immigrated from Croatia. Her mother, Kata died when Fran was nine years old, leaving her father to raise five children on his own. Luka taught his children that hard work and sacrifice were values not to be ashamed of.
On April 20, 1957, Fran married the love of her life, William Floyd Martin. Together they had three sons. In 1966, her husband was killed in a tragic accident, leaving Fran to raise her sons alone, much like her father had done. But, through the lessons that she had learned; hard work and perseverance would carry her through life.
In 1985, Fran decided to relocate to Oregon to be near her oldest sister, Mary. A short time later, two of her sons had followed. Between Illinois and Oregon, Fran worked in various roles within the grocery food industry for over 30 years. She was well respected for her kindness, generous heart and strength. After retirement, Fran was able to spend more time with her grandchildren and her two little dogs, Riley and Abby. Fran was extremely proud of her sons and grandchildren, who brought her much love. Family was very important to her.
