Ellen was born on September 19, 1948, in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines. She graduated from Holy Angel University with a degree in Education. She married Paul C. Ramirez Jr., moved to the United States on February 12, 1977, and settled in Portland, OR. A few weeks after her arrival to Portland, she began working for St. Vincent Hospital and was proud of her over 20-year career with St. Vincent working as a Data Processor and in Computer Operations. She moved on to work with a few other companies and finally retired from Xerox Corporation in 2011.
Ellen was an active member of the Fil-Am Friendship Club of Beaverton in the 1980s and early 1990s. At its conception in 1996, she was an active and dedicated member of the Aguman Kapampangan (now Aguman Kapampangan Northwest USA). She served as one of the initial Vice Presidents for the Aguman, often opened their home to many meetings and caroling practices and participated in some of the medical missions conducted in the Philippines on the organization’s behalf.
Her children remember her as a woman who loved and lived for her family, generous, and always willing to help others whenever she can. Ellen enjoyed crocheting and cross stitching, cooking (lutong Capampangan), singing, and dancing. Ellen also enjoyed bowling, attending events supporting her grandchildren, going to thrift and consignment stores, watching TFC (The Filipino Channel), and going out to eat.
She is especially known for her love of mahjong; including playing, teaching her family how to play, and watching others play on YouTube (she had recently been eyeing the new automatic mahjong tables).
