Elizabeth Michiko Baker, 63, of Aloha, Oregon, passed away July 20th, 2019. She was born in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan on July 28th, 1955. She was married to Gary Ross Baker on November 7th, 1973. Liz worked over 30 years for the Department of Veterans Affairs in a myriad of administrative positions. Liz, AKA, the “dragon lady” as she was endearingly termed by her co-workers, was a straight-shooter who spoke her mind. This may have a negative connotation for some, but she wore it as a badge of honor. She inherited an affinity for hard work from her father William L. Bernard and a compassionate heart from her mother Michiko Bernard who preceded her in death. She raised two strong, independent daughters whom she supported and encouraged to never settle and always pursue their dreams and ambitions. She had a passion for the theatre, ballet, and opera and enjoyed experiencing unique cuisines with her “Yum-Yum sisters” and family. She loved to travel, with her early roots beginning in Japan, Hawaii, and North Carolina. She married a career Army soldier, and they were stationed across the U.S. and Europe. They finally settled in her husband’s home state of Oregon, upon his military retirement. She is survived by her daughters Jessica Lynn Baker, partner Patricia Marino, and Margaret Kameko Baker, and brothers and sisters William Bernard, Warren Bernard, Ellen Dion, and Esther Canoy. Funeral services will be held at 1600-1800, July 27th, 2019 at Pegg, Paxson, and Springer Funeral Chapel. To leave an online condolence to the family, please add a memory below.
