Lillie Ruth “Jerri” Brooks Stroud, 100, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Beaumont, Texas. She was born and grew up in a rural community near Eastland, Texas. As a young adult, she moved to San Diego, California where she met and married her husband, Earl Stroud. They were married for 44 years.
Lillie was a homemaker and a very talented seamstress. She taught herself to sew and made all her daughters’ clothes. Later, she began sewing for the public, where she made many treasured friendships. Along with sewing, Lillie crocheted, loved to read, and cared for her many plants. Her green thumb rescued many friends’ plants that needed a second chance!
Graveside services for Lillie’s family and friends will be held Friday, July 16, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Peace, 4950 Pine St, Beaumont, Texas, officiated by Brother Rick Walker of Meadows Church of Christ.
Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, Hiriam Brooks and Maddie Elizabeth Sasser Brooks; her husband, Earl Preston Stroud; son-in-law, Robert ‘Bob” Carroll; brothers, Nolan Brooks and Odell Brooks; sisters, Ella Brooks Shirley, Sally Brooks Woody, and Amy Brooks Petersen.
Lillie is survived by her daughters, Linda S. Carroll of Beaumont, Texas and Sharron K. Brittain and husband Pat of Greenwood, Indiana; grandchildren, Jill S. Gerlufsen and husband Heath of Beaumont, Texas, Emily Brittain of Houston, Texas, and Justin Brittain of Greenwood, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Zachary Lee Gerlufsen, Gracie Elizabeth Gerlufsen, and Parker Robert Gerlufsen, all of Beaumont, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lillie’s family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living for the kind and loving care shown to our mother during her time with them.
She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
