Hugh was a Veteran, serving as a flight instructor in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Later, he owned Ferguson Insurance and managed Briggs Motor Company in Nome, TX. Hugh was a member of the Nome Lions Club, a member and President of the Hardin-Jefferson School Board, and the first Mayor of Nome, TX, a position he held for over 20 years. Throughout his lifetime, Hugh remained an avid supporter of Texas A&M, and a member of the 12th Man Foundation for over 60 years.
His parents, Archie and Luella Ferguson, his loving wife Nell Young Ferguson, his sister, Mary and his two brothers, James and Kenneth, precede Hugh in death.
Hugh is survived by his daughter, Lynda Curlee and her husband Jess of Tempe, AZ, his sons, Hugh Ferguson Jr. and wife Mary of Friendswood, TX, and Richard Ferguson and wife Linda of Winnie, TX. He is also survived by his three sisters Beverly Stimson, Mildred Hayek, and Betty Veselka, and by brother Robert Briggs Jr. Hugh is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will begin on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, with graveside services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
