He was born April 5, 1931 in Beaumont Texas to Anna Belle Angele Rountree and John Elbert Rountree. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Dorothy Mae Rountree Ward, his wife Blanche Buller Rountree, granddaughter Sundrine Ruth Rountree, "Sunny", and his lifetime best friend Troy Kelley.
He was a softball pitcher in the City League before he served in the army in Korea. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his sacrifice there.
He and Blanche devoted their lives to raising their four children. In 1962 he built his auto shop, Harold's Auto Repair, and ran it until his retirement in 1992. All who knew him knew how much he enjoyed gardening and few missed out on his generosity when the fruit and vegetables were ripe. He and his wife would often pick produce all morning and then spend the afternoon delivering it to the "old people ".
He is survived by one daughter, Lorinda Rountree and husband, Bill Modica, three sons Harold Eugene Rountree Jr., "Gene", Landry Rountree and wife Sharon, Dennis Rountree and wife Tammy, seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren with two more due this year.
The family would like to thank Brenda Lewis, Paughnee Naylor, Linda Payne, Mary Brottem, Jo Lynn Bobo, Meagan Markey and Ann Scott who helped care for Daddy in his last days. Your kindness and support meant more than you will ever know.
The family will receive friends at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 1, 2017.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Jeff Pitman, Rodney Barnett, and Kenneth Hay officiating.
Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
