Donald Earl Fullen Sr, 90, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Gulf Health Care Center in Galveston, Texas. He was born October 18, 1924 in San Augustine, Texas to Muriel Epps and Washington W. "Wash" Fullen, one of eight children. Following his father's early death, his family moved to Jasper, Texas. There, he grew up enjoying athletics and playing football for the Jasper High School Bulldogs.
Upon graduation, Don moved to Beaumont, Texas and married Gladys Beatrice Wilson in 1948. They settled in Rose Lawn in Orange, Texas and raised three children. He worked at DuPont until retirement, and attended McDonald Memorial Baptist Church. In 1983, fulfilling a promise to his wife, he built a house in Beaumont where he and Gladys happily lived until her passing in1989, and were members of North End Baptist Church. Then, he lived in a house he built at Wildwood in Woodville, Texas. In his eighties, he moved back to Beaumont and lived at Collier Park until health declined at age 89. Recently, he resided at Gulf Health Care Center in Galveston, Texas, with AMED Hospice, where he received excellent medical help and loving care.
Prior to age 90, Don enjoyed singing country music, dancing, watching football games, and prior to her passing, basking in the company of his dog Tootsie. He was a good man, husband, Dad and Pawpaw who loved his family.
Donald Earl Fullen Sr. was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Gladys Beatrice Wilson Fullen; his parents; his brothers Brooks, Aubrey, and Kenneth; and his sisters Hester, Dale, and Dena. Also, he is preceded in death by his special dear friend from Jasper, Texas, Margie Stewart Nations.
Don Sr. is survived by son Donald Earl Fullen Jr. and wife Teresa of Galveston, Texas; daughter Lynda Diane Fullen Bergeron of Destrehan, Louisiana; and son Gary Keith Fullen and Carolyn of Dallas, Texas. He is survived by grandson Lyndon Brian Fullen and wife Jana of Sour Lake, Texas; granddaughter Carey Diane Bergeron of New Orleans, Louisiana; granddaughter Jennifer Leigh Bergeron DeBlieux and husband Charles "Scoot" of New Orleans, Louisiana; granddaughter Marie Alaina Fullen Risner of McKinney, Texas; granddaughter Lindsey Emma Fullen Stevens and husband Mason of Austin, Texas; step grandson Alexander Mayor Miller of Dallas, TX; and step grandson Todd Christopher Spell of Texas. Other survivors are five great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and five step great-grandchildren; one sister, Delores "Dody" Bodden of San Antonio; and many caring nephews and nieces.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont, Texas with burial following at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the funeral service from noon to 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
