Dale was a man who loved working with his hands. He would work on anything, from repairing cars and lawnmowers to building furniture, he would do anything he put his mind to. He could engineer anything, and if he didn't know how, he would take as much time as needed to figure it out. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it, whether you were prepared for it or not. He loved to camp and took any chance he could to spend time outdoors, and especially enjoyed getting up early and cooking a huge breakfast for everyone travelling with him. He never met a stranger, and loved to hold a conversation with anyone he met. And he always had the biggest smile every time he entered a room. Dale was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather.
Dale was blessed with 73 years of marriage with his wife, Willie Mae. They met at the Woolworth's Five and Dime Store. They were wed on Dale's birthday (her idea) so he would never forget their anniversary. You could always find them supporting each other and working together, no matter the project. Dale was a member of the Dowlen Road Church of Christ and was a faithful man of God.
Dale is survived by his son Dale G. Smith Jr. of Castle Rock, CO; son James Smith and wife Barbara of Nacogdoches; daughter Glenda Turner and husband Bob of Silsbee; brother Tilman Smith of Mauriceville; sister Peggy Cantrell of San Antonio; grandchildren Lisa Bondurant, Brad Smith, Brent Smith, Rob Turner, Josh Turner, Mandi Koons, and Dustin Turner as well as 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife Willie Mae Smith; parents James Smith and Pauline Smith, sisters Opal Slack and Flo Wilson; and grandson Tyler Winfree.
